About Us

Sampson Pictures is led by Edward Sampson, a seasoned post-production professional and producer with an extensive portfolio spanning television and feature films. His career began in 2005 with LINK, directed by Paul Roukan, featuring Ben Mitchell (Shortland Street) and Shireen Shah (Jinnah).

Sampson played a key role in the New Zealand feature film I’m Not Harry Jenson, collaborating with writer/director James Napier Robertson and producer Tom Hern. Serving as producer, co-editor, and post-production producer, he helped bring the project to life. He earned the film nominations for Best Supporting Actor and Best Film Under One Million at the 2009 Qantas New Zealand Film and Television Awards.

In 2012, he edited and post-produced the feature film Crackheads, which was showcased at international festivals, including the Oaxaca Film Festival in Mexico and the Austin Film Festival in Texas. The film went on to win Best Self-Funded Feature Film at the 2013 New Zealand Film Awards. His editing work continued to gain recognition, earning a Best Editor nomination at the Academy Award-accredited Show Me Shorts Festival for Restoration (2015), a short film directed by Tim Tsiklauri and funded by the NZFC.

As an associate producer on the 2019 documentary series The Story of Rugby, Sampson contributed to its international success, with distribution in over 100 countries, including Amazon Prime. In 2020, he produced and edited Turn of the Screw, directed by Alex Galvin, which won multiple festival awards and had a limited theatrical release in New Zealand and the USA.

Sampson produced and directed Devils on Horses, a WWI documentary exploring the profound bond between soldiers and their horses during wartime. The film has been accepted into the Doc Edge Film Festival 2025.

Sampson Pictures also provides production services, as well as editorial and colour grading facilities, utilizing the Resolve Mini Panel and an ASUS OLED monitor.
